Brazil signed the Hague Apostille Convention on 14th August 2016.

The Brazilian Consulate in Sydney will accept for legalisation documents authenticated by DFAT prior to that date but not thereafter.

Documents authenticated by DFAT after 14th August will not be accepted for legalisation. Those documents will need to be returned to DFAT for an Apostille. DFAT have confirmed that they will apply an Apostille to a document which has already been authenticated.

Documents which have been legalised will be valid in Brazil until 14th February 2017. After that date they will need to also bear an Apostille.

Documents bearing an Apostille dated prior to 14th August 2016 will be accepted in Brazil.
